Project Six

  • The terraced entry of this home grows from the original site grading into the setback and stepped structure of the design. Limestone slabs appear to lift massing and unify the interior and exterior materiality. An established elm tree bends into the crevice of sky above the doorway. Curtain walls of windows orientate the vertical views from the front of the home. Whereas ceiling height spaced bands of glass allow light to radiate into the main living space from above at the rear. A variation on a ‘sunken’ living room is a practical solution to below ground parking resting beneath the kitchen. Yet, connectivity of space promotes a stylized ‘great’ room with dining and ample storage. The floor to ceiling fireplace draws attention to the overhead bridge connecting private bedroom spaces from the more public main floor. Outdoor living space extends from the rear ground level underneath the second-floor massing and into a manicured recreational area.
